Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Prime Video, Status: Renewal Possible): This LOTR prequel series remained in the Nielsen Top 5 for the week of its Season 2 finale, holding at the Number 4 slot and pulling in an estimated 527 million minutes of viewing. There has still been no official confirmation on a third season, but work has already begun on that and I expect an announcement at any time.
Agatha All Along (Disney+, Status: Mini-Series): This MCU entry dropped out of the Nielsen Top 10 after its second week, but it is still performing well for an original on that service and has been getting plenty of accolades. It is intended as a mini-series, but the show did set up the possibility for a continuation or a spin-off, so this one may not be done yet.
Wolf Like Me (Peacock, Status: Cancelled): It has been a year since the second season of this Australian-made supernatural dramedy premiered on Peacock and there has been no word on the show’s fate. In an interview in January 2024, series co-star Isla Fisher expressed doubt on whether a third season would happen, and I have seen nothing else suggesting the show will move forward. It ended on a cliffhanger, so obviously there were plans to continue the story. But for now I am going to count it as cancelled.
