Outer Banks Season 4: The Pogues face new threats and bigger risks—what to expect?
A still from Outer Banks Season 4

This is just the beginning of the treasure hunt. On October 10, 2024, the Pogues will be back for another season of Outer Banks filled with excitement and adventure. In the most ambitious season to date, starring Chase Stokes as John B., Melissan Cline as Sarah, Rudy Pankow as JJ, Madison Bailey as Kiara, Jonathan Daviss as Pope, and Carlacia Grant as Cleo, the show will return in two parts, each consisting of five episodes. Part 2 will premiere on Netflix on November 7.

Plot overview and teaser of Season 4

Even though the Pogues’ story has come to a stop, the quest for Blackbeard’s gold is just around the corner, and the next phase of #P4L has hardly begun. The Pogues intended to return to their previous ways of life, which included treasure hunting, after their trip to the City of Gold. Nevertheless, the trailer features John B saying, “Come on, how long were we really going to stay out of trouble?” The Pogues will be back on top this season, so watch the Season 4 trailer to get ready. Could they be a recipe for disaster? Very possibly.

It had been 18 months since the Pogues discovered El Dorado’s gold when we last saw them in Season 3’s conclusion. While they were still reeling from the deaths of Big John (Charles Halford) and Ward (Charles Esten), they were pausing to think about their fought-for triumph.

Time-jump and introduction of Blackbeard’s treasure

Outer Banks’ creators and executive producers, Shannon Burke, Josh Pate, and Jonas Pate, expressed their desire to Tudum that viewers would truly experience the depth of the Pogues’ bond when the stakes rise even higher in Season 3. While the story is full of exciting events, Burke emphasized that the true focus will be on the friendships formed among the characters. Most importantly, though, Josh Pate hoped that all those homebodies who were wishing for a Pogues reunion would get the sense that there’s more coming.

Season 3 took us ahead 18 months to see Wes Genrette’s (David Jensen) plan for the Pogues to recover Blackbeard’s treasure, but Season 4 goes back in time to show us what happened before that. The Pogues go back to the “OBX” and promise themselves to live a “normal” life after discovering El Dorado’s gold. Together, they have established a new sanctuary called “Poguelandia 2.0,” where they sell bait, tackle, and charter tours while living in relative peace and quiet. Following some financial hardships, Wes entices John B., Sarah, Kiara, JJ, Pope, and Cleo to return to the “G” game for an exciting new adventure.

But suddenly, they find themselves in a precarious situation, with fresh and potentially deadly foes following closely behind, trying to outrun them to the prize. While their problems worsen, they start to doubt everything from their past to their future—their identity, the value of their work, and their risk-taking.

Returning cast and new characters

Stokes (John B.), Cline (Sarah), Bailey (Kiara), Daviss (Pope), Pankow (JJ), Grant (Cleo), North (Topper), and Starkey (Rafe) are all regulars returning to the series. The show has also promoted Fiona Palomo to series regular, where she will reprise her role as Sofia.

However, that’s not all! J. Anthony Crane portrays Chandler Groff in Outer Banks Season 4. As the Pogues go on their latest trip, he warmly welcomes them, his heart heavy with grief at his wife’s death. Pollyanna McIntosh plays Dalia, a leader with revolutionary tendencies and a worldly baddie who encounters the Pogues during pillage. Brianna Brown portrays Hollis Robinson. After a fruitful partnership with Ward, the island’s top realtor is now eyeing Rafe for a new business opportunity. Rigo Sanchez portrays Lightner, the intimidating stranger with a piratical nerve. This cunning and potentially dangerous outdoorsman appears to be testing the Pogues. Topper forms a strong bond with the untamed and toxic Ruthie, played by Mia Challis.

John B.’s trademark OBX voiceover informs viewers that the Pogues have accomplished their goal—they have discovered the gold. That ought to have been the end of the story. The truth is, though, that was merely the start.
