Superman Creates History: David Corenswet Alone Was Enough to Beat Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool 3 Record

David Corenswet’s ‘hopeful’ Superman easily surpasses Marvel’s R-rated film in the number of online views for their trailer debuts.

James Gunn’s Superman teaser trailer received a great welcome from fans all over the world. The teaser confirmed that Gunn has brought his unique magic and colors into the film, making even the skeptics look forward to the film. The David Corenswet-led film also broke a unique record this year, set by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Superman teaser trailer beat the Deadpool 3 trailer to become the fourth-biggest online trailer debut ever with 250 million views. While Reynolds’ film holds the record for the biggest trailer debut, it also includes TV viewers during the Super Bowl. The Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer is the biggest online trailer debut.

From the new Superman teaser, it appears that James Gunn has checked every box to make DC fandom happy. Fans too responded well to the teaser trailer and the numbers of its debut are out, crossing a significant milestone. David Corenswet‘s movie surpasses Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool & Wolverine in terms of the biggest online trailer debut.

According to Culture Crave, the Superman teaser gained 250 million viewers in the first 24 hours of its YouTube release. Meanwhile, Reynolds’ film trailer had 242 million online viewers on its debut day. Superman and Deadpool 3 trailers are now behind Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, Avengers: Endgame teaser, and Avengers: Endgame trailer.

Some fans disputed the numbers, citing Deadpool 3‘s Guinness World Record achievement for the most viewed movie trailer in 24 hours. According to the data on the site, the trailer racked up 365 million global views, even beating the record of Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man film.

Culture Crave, who released the numbers, explained that their numbers were purely the online views of these trailers. They shared that Disney included the stats of TV viewers during the Super Bowl broadcast while determining the numbers of Deadpool 3. They shared a report showing the TV viewers to be 123 million, meaning the online viewers came around 242 million.

Another X page, @HollywoodHandle, released the list of biggest trailer debuts, where Superman cracked the No. 5 spot. However, one fan pointed out the discrepancy in including the Super Bowl stats of Deadpool 3.

It is particularly notable that Superman achieved this feat with a relatively unfamiliar face Corenswet. Meanwhile, Deadpool 3 had the backing of two of the most popular stars in Hollywood. James Gunn and the DC brand also helped increase the appeal of Superman.

Even before the teaser trailer, James Gunn gave us hints that comics would play a huge part in his Superman film. It is clear that Gunn plans to reel in the comic book fandom by giving them what they exactly want. Fans saw a Man of Steel who is more relatable and spreads optimism in the new teaser.

The comic-accurate costumes, the settings, and even the plethora of characters and easter eggs that flashed through the scenes look all promising. Gunn even introduces Krypto the Superdog in the film. The teaser showed that Superman brings back the bright colors of the classic films.

Adding to the color tone, a twist on John Williams’ iconic Superman theme plays in the background. Throughout the teaser, fans can see the influence of Richard Donner’s Superman films. Even the visual text in between scenes resembles the font that the 1978 film used.

Gunn’s vision for the Superman universe feels expansive, even reminding us of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man as a foundation for a broader franchise. Superman is scheduled to hit the theaters on July 11, 2025.
