“He would be a little turned off by the excess”: Andrew Garfield Said His Spider-Man Will Never be Impressed With Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man and His ‘Egoic Drives’

Sounds like Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker could never treat Tony Stark the way Tom Holland’s friendly neighborhood web-slinger did!

Among all the characters in the MCU, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark is unarguably one of the greatest fan favorites. Although he does prove to be a jerk at times, his charm, wittiness, and incredible personality (just like his real-life counterpart) are what drive people to love him to the core. However, Andrew Garfield doesn’t feel this way when it comes to his superhero.

According to Garfield, his version of Peter Parker will just never be impressed by Downey Jr.’s superhero — if he ever gets to meet him — and for one too many understandable reasons. That’s not all, for Garfield even believes that rather than being in awe of everything that Tony Stark possesses, his web-slinger could just end him influencing him instead!

Andrew Garfield Feels His Peter Parker Would be Skeptical of Tony Stark

While there is no doubt that Robert Downey Jr.’s superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is unarguably one of the most interesting and beloved characters of all time, the web-slinger portrayer from The Amazing Spider-Man film series tends to differ in his opinion. If anything, Garfield feels his character would be thoroughly skeptical of Stark instead of admiring him.

During an Actually Me session with GQ, the Hacksaw Ridge star had to address a similar query when asked the Quora question that said: How would MCU Iron Man treat Garfield’s Spider-Man?

To this, the actor had the most relatable answer that perhaps fans may as well have heard from his Peter Parker had this question been asked to him.

Answering and presenting his opinions with blatant honesty, Andrew Garfield said (and yes, this happened after Avengers: Endgame): I definitely think Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man would be pretty suspect of MCU Iron Man. I think he would be a little turned off by the excess, the billionaire, trillionaire status of [Tony Stark].

Not only that, but the Tick, Tick… Boom! actor even feels this very feature of Stark could rub his character the wrong way. As he continued to say: I think it would rub my version of Spider-Man the wrong way.

However, that’s not all that there is to this question because Garfield also feels that, rather than getting influenced by him, his friendly neighborhood superhero could have ended up influencing Stark and setting him back on the right track.

During the same interview, Garfield further expressed how, had the duo met, his superhero could have ended up influencing Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark in a way that Stark could actually get back on the right track from his “own egoic drives.”

As he continued to write in his answer to the Quora question: But maybe there could be some influence there. Maybe my Peter Parker could wake Tony Stark up to his own egoic drives a little bit. We’ll never know.

Unarguably enough, that sounds like a much more mature response than what Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker would have had after meeting “Mr. Stark.” But at the same time, the relationship Holland’s Peter shared with Tony is something that fans wouldn’t give up for the world either.

That said, perhaps it was only for the better that Garfield’s Parker and Tony Stark never got to meet.
