Filming is currently under way in north Wales.
Bridgerton actor Ruby Stokes has landed her next role in a period drama film.
Stokes, who played Francesca Bridgerton in the first two seasons of the Netflix hit, is starring in Madfabulous, a feature set in 19th century Wales with It’s a Sin‘s Callum Scott Howells as flamboyant aristocratic rebel Henry Paget.
After arriving from France to live at his family’s castle in Anglesey, Henry meets Stokes’ character Lily, and brings a spark into her life. They soon become the best of friends, as well as platonic lovers.
In his life, Henry became a fashion icon, turned a chapel into a lively theatre, and spent all his family’s money. Then, he died at the age of 29.
Rupert Everett, Derry Girls‘ Siobhán McSweeney, Tom Rhys Harries (who appeared in Doctor Who episode ‘Dot and Bubble’), and Kevin Eldon also star.
Steve Speirs, Paul Rhys, Louis Hynes, Louise Brealey, Roger Evans, Guillaume Gallienne, and Coronation Street‘s Ian Puleston-Davies round out the cast.
Filming is currently taking place in Anglesey, homeplace of director Celyn Jones, as well as in Caernarfon and Pwllheli.
“We have an embarrassment of riches in front of and behind the camera on this Madfabulous film,” Jones said.
“It’s wonderful to be telling this story, this way, right here and now. Henry was a true original and deserves this reimagining, revisiting his legend with a disco lens and a punk heart.”
Last year, Stokes said that leaving Bridgerton was “a difficult choice”. She went on to star in Netflix’s Lockwood & Co, while Hannah Dodd took over the role of Francesca for Bridgerton‘s third season.
Madfabulous does not currently have a release date.
