Ariana Grande and Kathryn Hahn are both first-time Golden Globe nominees for their roles in Wicked and Agatha All Along, respectively. Now, their paths crossed at a special event, and they had a sweet encounter.
On Dec. 17, first-time Golden Globes nominees gathered in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, at The Maybourne to celebrate the occasion. 60 stars attended the luncheon, including Ariana Grande, Cooper Koch, Pamela Anderson, Zoe Saldaña, and Kathryn Hahn. The nominees mingled and interacted with each other, and Variety shared the sweet meeting between two of 2024’s best witches: Glinda and Agatha.
The short clip shared online shows the two of them sharing a long hug, before Grande proclaiming, “I have loved you forever. I love you so much,” before paying the actress a compliment about her eyes. Hahn was visibly touched by Grande’s kind words and the internet was immediately ablaze by the two witches’ interaction.
One fan quickly replied, “Don’t let scarlet witch see this.” Another wrote, “Green witches’ ex-girlfriend union,” highlighting the ongoing conversation about Elphaba and Glinda’s relationship, as well as Agatha’s past relationship with Rio. A different fan simply asked for them to appear on the screen together, writing, “hollywood please cast them together i’m begging you.”
Ariana Grande received a nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture category for her role as Glinda, while Hahn’s work was recognized in the category of Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Grande is set to reprise her role as Glinda in the upcoming second part of the critically acclaimed musical, Wicked: For Good, with Hahn expected to return to the role of Agatha Harkness in a yet-unannounced Agatha All Along Season 2.
Agatha All Along Drew Inspiration From The Wizard of Oz
Agatha All Along was first and foremost a Marvel Studios series, but it drew inspiration not only from the comic books but also other pop culture moments or projects, including 1939’s The Wizard of Oz and 2014’s Maleficent. Agatha All Along‘s Episode 7, “Death’s Hand in Mine” further proved the connection, as one of the trials on the Witches’ Road turned Agatha into the Wicked Witch of the West. In the musical, Grande stars alongside Cynthia Erivo, who marvelously plays Elphaba. However, in the series, Agatha further claims she was the inspiration for the Wicked Witch, as she was older than the 1939 film and the 1900 novel.
Agatha All Along used The Wizard of Oz as a major source of inspiration, and it also featured in the pop culture-filled series’ credits with an image of Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion, and used different quotes, names, visual references, the musical numbers, or parallels to the world of Oz. Agatha’s own companions, her nickname “Toto” for the Teen, and the overall storyline gave a modern twist to The Wizard of Oz, making Hahn’s encounter with Grande even more endearing.
Agatha All Along is streaming on Disney+, while Wicked is playing in theaters.
