The anticipated movie Deadpool & Wolverine has gotten its debut Rotten Tomatoes score. It follows the film’s first reactions referring to the film as a “game changer for the MCU.”

On Rotten Tomatoes, Deadpool & Wolverine has debuted with a Certified Fresh score of 79%. While this means the reception has been mostly positive, the caveat is that this is the lowest score of all three Deadpool movies. The original film has a score of 85%, while Deadpool 2 is sitting at 84%. As the days proceed, the number for Deadpool & Wolverine will fluctuate as more reviews come in, and it’s possible that the new movie could see a rise and even end up surpassing the first two Deadpool films.

“Led by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman at the top of their superhero game, Deadpool & Wolverine is an absurd blast of a Marvel multiverse joyride,” said Molly Freeman of Screen Rant.

Emmanuel Noisette of The Movie Blog also said of the film, “Deadpool & Wolverine was a bloody, action-packed, cameo-fest all wrapped up in a heartwarming love letter to Marvel fans. All of the fun comic references, Easter eggs, and cameos make this sequel the most Marvely MCU film since Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

“The movie is chaotic, as expected in a Deadpool film,” another review from Wendy Lee Szany from The Movie Couple stated. “However, within the chaos, they found time to give characters emotional arcs and moments and let those scenes breathe. Great action, great performances, a ton of fun.”

CBR’s own Ben Wasserman also gave praise to Deadpool & Wolverine, noting in a review, “For longtime Marvel/X-Men/Deadpool fans, Deadpool & Wolverine checks off plenty of boxes. It retains all the edge of Deadpool’s Fox projects but with enough Disney budget to make his exploits feel bigger and crazier than ever.”

Deadpool & Wolverine Is Expected to Smash Records

The film is tracking to have a tremendous opening at the box office, expected to smash the record for the biggest opening ever for an R-rated movie. The feat is all the more impressive with the film coming out at a time when “superhero fatigue” has been blamed for many comic book adaptations underperforming at the box office in recent years. While it would seem that the film is not completely free of criticism, most of the critics who’ve seen it so far are feeling that the wait for the long-gestating film was worth it.

Shawn Levy directed Deadpool & Wolverine. The film stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the titular roles while Emma Corrin plays the villain, Cassandra Nova. Several guest stars are featured, including Dafne Keen as X-23, Aaron Stanford as Pyro, and Tyler Mane as Sabretooth.

Deadpool & Wolverine releases in movie theaters on July 26, 2024.
