Rich people, hey. They really do — and this is of course subjective — the strangest things. Like voluntarily swap living in a nine-bedroom mansion for a stint in a tiny home, as Elon Musk is doing.

Yep, one of the richest men in the world revealed in a tweet back in June that he — along with his partner Grimes and their kid X Æ A-Xii, presumably — were now all living in a prefabricated tiny house, valued at just AUD$67,000. Which, for those of you counting at home, is less than even some Tesla models.

The home is rented from Musk’s space transportation company SpaceX and is located on the company’s launch site in Boca Chica, Texas, he explained.

“My primary home is literally a ~$50K house in Boca Chica / Starbase that I rent from SpaceX,” he wrote.

“It’s kinda awesome though… Only house I own is the events house in the Bay Area. If I sold it, the house would see less use, unless bought by a big family, which might happen some day.”

Musk’s tiny home is thought to have been produced by Boxable, a Las Vegas-based tiny home company known for its affordability, ease of construction and studio apartment-style designs. The house, which can be constructed in just a day, features a no-frills, yet modern living area, bathroom, bed and kitchen.

Keen to take a peek? Of course, you are.

While you could hardly call the digs shabby, it’s certainly no San Francisco nine-bedroom mansion. But props to Musk for yet again keeping it real. There’s something to be said for that.
