“Basically he’s not getting rehired”: Upsetting News For X-Men ’97 Fans as Marvel is Seemingly Not Bringing Beau DeMayo Back For Season 2

Head of Marvel Studios Television, Brad Winderbaum, speaks on the second season of X-Men ’97.

Xmen '97 Beau Demayo

Beau DeMayo has been at the center of media attention ever since X-Men ’97 started airing. While the show has been an absolute hit, many fans were confused when the executive producer was fired from his position eight days before the series aired. Such a drastic decision was quite surprising, as not only did he produce the series, but he was also the sole creator of it.

Since the news hit the internet, many have been wondering if he will be coming back for the second season now that the first has concluded. While the writer has confirmed that he was a big part of the writing of season 2, his exit made his involvement quite hazy. However, a recent interview may have confirmed his standing with the franchise.

What Direction is Marvel Taking With X-Men ’97?

The head of Marvel Studios Television, Brad Winderbaum, recently gave an interview with Entertainment Weekly, where he talked about the second season of X-Men ’97. He started by mentioning that the general premise of the series will continue to follow Beau DeMayo’s blueprint. However, he did not hint at any involvement of the executive producer.

We are honoring Beau’s ideas for the second season.

The series ended up working exceptionally well, and all of its success cannot be credited to the hype of the original show. Its entire team understood the task very well and worked harmoniously to create the masterpiece it has become now. Brad Winderbaum then spoke on exactly this, stating that the next season will continue to take a similar approach.

T'Chaka X-Men '97
So much of the visual storytelling of [X-MEN ’97] comes from [Jake Castorena] and our amazing directing team [Emi Yonemura and Chase Conley].

So it does feel like there’s a consistent voice. The mantra is the same, the goals are the same, and the source material is the same. As long as that’s our guiding principle, that we’re honoring the comics and the original show, that’s the core to the creative pursuit.

He named Jake Castorena, who worked as a supervising director, as well as Chase Conley and Emi Yonemura, who also worked as directors on episodes. Winderbaum stated that since all the variables the show is based on are constant, the team working on the second season simply has to have a similar approach so they can continue to tell the story.

Fans Show Concern About Beau DeMayo

While the approach certainly seems to be a good way to go about the second season of X-Men ’97, many fans cannot get over the firing of Beau DeMayo. His involvement in the next season and the fact that he has had a hand in a big chunk of it make many fans quite upset. They demand Marvel hire him back and let him make the series as good as its debut was.

Others are fixated on the fact that season 3 will have a new writer. Since the first season worked so well due to DeMayo’s involvement, many are afraid that the decision to switch Head Writers will have unfortunate consequences for the series. At the same time, many fans were simply curious about the reason for his firing.

After doing such an excellent job, they were trying to understand how serious the situation was for him to have been removed.
