“If there’s one thing MCU needs less of, it’s cameo-p*rn”: Daredevil Reboot Takes a Major Risk With Cameos, Threatens to Ruin Netflix’s Grounded Arc

Charlie Cox teases one thing about Daredevil: Born Again and fans are concerned that it may ruin the one great thing about the Netflix version.

Daredevil: Born Again may have committed one mistake that may ruin the entire format of the series for fans. Earlier, Marvel learned its lesson and reversed many of the decisions it took to give the Charlie Cox series a complete overhaul. Writers and showrunners were changed to make the series more connected with its first three seasons on Netflix.

However, Cox hinted at one thing about the series that has concerned many fans. When asked if fans would see any of the familiar faces from the MCU, Cox shared that there will be a couple of “fun” collisions in the series. Fans believe that the cameo appearances would potentially take away the grounded aspect of the series.

Daredevil: Born Again was one of the prominent MCU projects that took center stage at the D23 fan event. Charlie Cox will return as the Hell’s Kitchen lawyer Matt Murdock, who turns into the nighttime vigilante Daredevil. At the event, Cox was joined by other returning stars from the original Netflix series, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Deborah Ann Woll, and Elden Henson.

The team also appeared for an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, where they discussed their new entry into the MCU. Cox had earlier appeared in brief cameo roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. When asked if other stars in the MCU would return favors and appear in the series in cameo roles, Cox had a rather cryptic answer.

The Stardust actor shared, “There’s a couple of small fun moments of collision.” However, he went on to add that he didn’t want to “oversell” anything. Other actors were in splits of laughter when Cox struggled to explain it without revealing any major spoilers. Fans speculated that Cox’s comments were indicative of the cameos in the series.

Many expressed concerns over the series trying to go out of its way to establish the MCU connection. Some of the fans demanded that the series focus on the story first like its earlier Netflix version. They also shared that cameo-p*rn was the last thing that the franchise needed right now. Some of the fan reactions read:

Earlier Cox and D’Onofrio opened up about the change in the writers and the overhauling of the planned series. According to TV Insider, D’Onofrio shared that Daredevil: Born Again “originally wasn’t going to be at all, but now it’s a lot.” Cox credited the studio for finding the right balance between giving fans what they liked and bringing a few changes into the new storyline.

Why Are Cameos Bad For Daredevil: Born Again?

According to RadioTimes, about 60 characters are reportedly appearing in the series, of which many could be cameos from the MCU universe. It is not in the style of the original Netflix show to bring in numerous characters without giving them proper attention. Daredevil gained acclaim for its focus on the street-level side of the Marvel universe, the little details, and the characters.

In particular, the show explored the backstories, the tragedies, and the hardships of several of the show’s characters. The cameos and crossovers will probably take the heart out of the show that fans came to love so much. A generic story with no emotional investment is not likely to work in favor of the series.

The only possible cameo fans might want to see is a street-level Spider-Man, which would serve as a teaser to the fourth Spider-Man film. Dario Scardapane, the writer-producer of The Punisher, is currently helming the show.

Daredevil: Born Again will be released on Disney+ in March 2025.
