A new image from the set of Disney’s upcoming live-action Snow White film shows Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen and Rachel Zegler’s Snow White meeting. The movie hits theaters on March 21, 2025.
Directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson, the live-action Snow White film is a musical re-imagining of Walt Disney Productions’ 1937 animated film. In a new image shared by USA Today, Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen stands tall and majestic as she takes Snow White (Zegler) by the hand. The image appears to be from the beginning of the film, with the two likely inside the Queen’s castle before Snow White flees into the forest after the Queen orders her to be murdered.

Christopher Nolan’s next film could be his most ambitious project ever.
In addition to Zegler and Gadot, the cast of Snow White includes Andrew Burnap as Jonathan (the lead male role, replacing the character of The Prince from the original animated film). Ansu Kabia stars as the Huntsman, and Patrick Page provides the voice and motion capture for the film’s iconic Magic Mirror. Other cast members include Dujonna Gift as Maple, Martin Klebba as Grumpy and Colin Michael Carmichael as Farno.
Filming for Snow White took place primarily in London from March to July 2022. Even prior to its release, the film has already generated plenty of controversy, with Zegler’s public disapproval of the original film drawing significant backlash. Other controversies surrounding the upcoming film have included casting criticisms, and story changes, especially regarding the re-imagining of the Seven Dwarfs. In October 2023, Disney’s first look at the movie showed the Seven Dwarfs, which, rather than being portrayed by live-action actors, were CGI characters made to look like their animated counterparts.
Rachel Zegler Responds to Fans’ Backlash
In October 2024, Zegler shared her thoughts regarding the Snow White film’s controversies, including how it made her feel to see such significant backlash in response to some of her opinions on the original film. Explaining that some of her comments were taken out of context, Zegler said, “In all honesty, it made me sad that it was taken in such a way, because I believe that women can do anything. But I also believe that they can do everything.”

Part of the backlash Zegler faced was due to her comments regarding the original film’s love story, with Zegler referring to it as “weird” and commenting on how the prince “literally stalks” Snow White. She went on to clarify that the upcoming film will still include the romantic aspect of the original beloved animated film. ” It can be very upsetting when things get taken out of context or jokes don’t land. The love story is very integral. A lot of people wrote that we weren’t doing [it] anymore — we were always doing that; it just wasn’t what we were talking about on that day.”
The live-action Snow White is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 21, 2025.

Directed by Marc Webb, this newest iteration of the iconic character stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White alongside Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Originally slated to release in 2024, Snow White was delayed a year to 2025 partly due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
