The MCU could have depicted one of Thor’s best moments in his films had the character not been so radically changed for the big screen.
Thor (2020) is one of the best Thor stories to come out in recent times, bringing in all the characters that want to see play out in a Thor story. A time in Thor’s history when anyone could pick up Mjolnir, this recent run of Thor delivered some moments that deserve to be in the MCU one way or the other.
While there have been a lot of moments in Thor’s comics that have not made it to the MCU, one, in particular, would have been a great addition to the film had Mjolnir still existed in the MCU. There are a few things from the comics that are impossible to translate to the big screen, and this particular shot seemed tailor-made for the character, even with the differences in the MCU character and his comics counterpart.
Thor reminded Tony Stark in the most epic manner that hammer or not, he is still a god

In Thor (2020) Issues #7, Thor sends his hammer to Midgard for an experiment. This goes with calling Tony Stark to the sight of the crash, which just happens to be where Iron Man fought Thor in the past. Here, Stark picks up Mjolnir (as the enchantment on the Hammer seems to be giving Thor trouble) and decides to smack the All-Father Thor across the face.
This, however, fails to faze Thor, who reminds Tony Stark that:
Do not mistake wielding my hammer for wielding my power. Mjolnir or not, I am still a god. And you are a tin man in a lightning storm.
Given that there was a time when Thor was without his hammer in the MCU, this scene would have reaffirmed the fact that Thor is still a threat without his hammer to the other Avengers, as was established in Thor: Ragnarok. However, Infinity War saw fit to give the character another weapon to kill Thanos.
There is a lot of Thor’s mythology that needs to be explored in the MCU
While Thor has had the most number of solo films out of all the heroes in the MCU, there is still a lot of Thor’s mythology that is to be explored in the films. From Balder The Brave, to Angela, and Beta Ray Bill, there are a lot of characters in Thor’s neck of the cosmos that might never get the time to shine in the MCU.
However, Marvel does seem keen on retiring Thor as it has done with Steve Rogers and Tony Stark. Perhaps Thor’s plots can work better with a successor, which Thor might or might not have in the MCU. However, introducing the other children of Odin in the films could allow Thor to have a worthy successor who actually sticks around for films to come.
